Tiger Cartoons
Tiger Cartoons: The Tiger: big and majestic, it's pattern bewilders our senses and we have portrayed the tiger in art, and worshiped it for many centuries. So what happens when the cartoonists move in! ahhhhhh...... Is it a disaster.... not in the least. The cartoon portrayals of the tiger through the years, have no less, endeared us to the tiger in more ways than one.
Once again I have been slaving over the dining table the other night drawing some cartoon tigers for you to have a look at. Yes... it was night time again, and no... don't be sorry for me, as I am more the afternoon/night person anyway. This is the time I really switch on. I can't say that I have done allot of drawing recently, so I am glad I didn't have to get the eraser out too much when rubbing out the mistakes under candle light, no.... just kidding..... I do have lights in the house. I started this drawing with our good ol' guidance outlines again.... Though got so tied up in completing the tiger cartoon that I did not stop, forgetting to keep it basic, so that you could see where I had drawn in the guide lines. So I put the outlines in on the tiger drawing, by using my
trusty "Wacom
Drawing Tablet" to show you the basic proportional guide lines firstly, oh
well....... I did draw the front legs of the tiger a bit too short firstly, and soon rectified this without having to change the rest of the cartoon drawing, lucky escape......... See... even I do it. No matter how many lines you might sketch in, your bound to make a few boo boos along the way! But were human, and that gives way to error. So as long as you don't make some mistakes that are to big in your tiger cartoons, you can get away with fixing them without having to start from scratch in your drawing all over again. Not the nicest thing to do......... start all over again... From one tiger cartoons face to another, you can choose how you want your tiger cartoon to look. Now this example drawing on the right has chubby chops. Making this tiger seem more inquisitive and softening his look. With fluffy cheeks, his still a kitty not-to-be-reckoned-with,
but these Who is more so thinner in the cheeks and also has a bigger nose. Through experimenting, you can change many different features of the tiger, without taking away it's likeness. So don't be afraid to change any features with the thought in your mind that it's just not going to work. Like... "will my tiger still look like a tiger whether I make his face fuller or thinner?". Now here we have a real side profile of a cartoon tiger, have a look how I have drawn his features.
I have made his nose more angular, but it works! The shading was done more as a guidance, than if you filled in the tigers stripes with solid black. You would probably end up with a more of a startling drawing. By using this sketchy application for the stripes, I have suggested the stripes only, by just breaking the stripes up a little. There fore giving a more whimsical manner to the drawing, by the way, my subscribers get more great ideas of how to create these Tigers into cartoons, in my free monthly "pet art newsletter". Why not come and join us. You don't have to be rigid in your decisions when drawing, there are many ways you can draw. Whether you are using the "loose style" or the "tight style" of these major drawing styles, where such effects alone, can change the feeling you get from a specific drawing. "There
is no must in art because art is free. ~ I would advise you to try both of these most basic styles. Even by drawing the same cartoon twice side by side to just to see how different they look. And it's a good idea to see how you perceive these different styles of drawings and really ask yourself how you feel in your own mind when looking at these different styles? What feelings do they give you? A feeling of more freedom? Whimsical? Look within your own emotions, as this is a good exercise to find out for yourself how you would want to portray your own different styles of art in the future. This is an extension of what I explained to you previously, the planning and homework you need to do before you even start your new piece of art work.
