Sculptures Online

SSculptures Online:

Online....... meaning the web, the information highway, Right!

Yes, its true you can buy almost everything online these days, except the kitchen sink- o' you can but that too...  ok.

Well as I said, everything online with the tap of a few buttons and an online account or bank card at the ready. And your there.

Now.... going back many years in time. To own a sculpture in the old days, was a thing of status. And in the days of the Romans and the Greeks, sculptures ruled supreme. They depicted events in time, wars, famous people and events.

Whether sculptures were carved in stone or marble, sculpted in clay and eventually cast in into bronze. These processes were time consuming and took an sculptor many hours to days; even months to finish.

So you could imagine, now, if you wanted to commission a sculptor to do a sculpture for you these days. How much it would cost.

"Live in the Mist" Artist ~ Andrea Balch

Now it seems as though the new processes that have been invented fairly recently, have given us the choice of buying replicas of original sculptures at a much cheaper price.

So not only the wealthy can have sculptures in their houses and gardens, every day people can too.

Buying Sculptures

Now buying sculptures say.... twenty odd years ago still meant us going out to galleries and stores. Then came the internet, it made things all the easier for us. To go and sit down in the comfort of our own homes and surf the web for as long as we want ,searching for that sculpture you always wanted. Listed and possibly manufactured in many countries. That's the way it is these days, all over the world at the touch of the button...

Sculpture Pricing

So what are we looking for, you have got your sculptures that come in limited editions, meaning that these sculptures are reproduced by the original artist in a run of say from 5 to 250. Depending on the individual decision of the artist.

The lower the edition, the more you will be paying for one piece of art. Don't be disappointed - because any one looking for a nice piece of sculpture, knows once the edition runs out and the run is finished. And if there was another person out there who has missed out on buying one of these sculpture productions. The only way they can buy one is through the individuals who purchased previously. Meaning that this particular sculpture is now a collectors item, and the buyer of one of these sculptures, can name his own price if he or she wishes to sell.

Buying Sculptures online

You have the choice of also buying reproductions, which are not in a limited edition. So they will be allot cheaper, you wont be able to make any money back on them as the production line never stops.

Its a decision you need to decide. So where do you look for sculptures. Sculptures online can be bought for many sites, there are:

  • Online Store Shops

  • Artist Sites

  • Gallery Sites

  • Auction Sites

Just to name a few, though these are the main outlets to buy from. Now most sculptures from online stores are new.

Online Store Shops

We are talking about the general shops that you would normally go in to whilst going down town to big departmental stores. Prices online should not be any different from what you would pay at the stores, the only added amount will be to have the sculpture shipped to you.  One word of advise, is to ask them if they have cover if the sculpture gets damaged on the way to you, so that you don't end up paying for a broken sculpture. And not getting a replacement.

Art Sites

These sites that you see online are mainly put up by individual artists themselves, or a governing body - where many artists sell their sculptures online.

You will find most are of limited editions, and a much greater range of new and original sculpture designs. And its always exciting to see new sculpture editions coming up.

Gallery Sites

Well.... galleries have got into it as have most companies and shops these days. Why not sell your wares online with the rest of them. And I say great, it gives the buyer time to look and also find sculptures that they weren't looking for. And the excitement of finding a sculpture that you just have to have is a great feeling. Even myself as a sculptor, I still get a buzz  when I see other sculptors works online and there are so many wonderful sculptures coming up all the time.

Auction Sites

With auction sites out there like e-Bay, buying and selling sculptures are on the rise. You will find people selling their own sculptures that they have previously brought, and want to sell them on now. Or shops selling their sculptures to artists also selling their sculptures online.

"Farrah's Pride" Artist ~ Andrea Balch

So you could say, Just about everybody will be selling and buying sculptures online. If you spend enough time on the auction sites you might be able to grab a bargain. Though you wont have the greatest of choices in auction sites compared to going onto artist sites or gallery sites. Though its worth a look around, you might just get what you want.

"The sculptor represents the transition from one pose to another.. he indicates how insensibly the first glides into the second. In his work we still see a part of what was and we discover a part of what is to be".- Auguste Rodin

Buying sculptures online these days is just an everyday occurrence. We sit down put on the computer and start shopping. I feel that the biggest advantage is that we can take our time, over weeks to months

looking and browsing for the sorts of sculptures that you, as an individual want.

The disadvantage is that you cant go right up and touch the sculptures as you would in a gallery. So get the measurements that should be shown next to the sculptures photo. And measure it out with a tape to see just how big the sculpture is. And if your happy with the size and the price. You have yourself another sculpture.
