Sculpture Artists
sculpture artists:
Sculpture you will find is
almost universally acknowledged to be the most expensive art form, narrowly
rivaling painting.
The one thing that the public
may lack is their knowledge, though maybe willing to learn; is the
realization of how complicated tedious and painstaking a process it is
for a sculptor to accomplish a finished piece of work.
Upon talking with collectors
of this form of art , it is evident that most people are unaware of the
process of sculpture and think such an art form is easily accomplished
through no fault of their own.
I would like to discuss and
take the liberty to guide you through the world of the sculptor, that
brings these works of the imagination to life. To life in the form of bronze
sculpture that has been around since the days of the early Egyptians. It is
one of the oldest art forms and one of the most prized and respected thought
history.
Because bronze sculpture is
almost immortal in nature, it therefore cannot be assumed that it is an easy
expression of the artists talent. It never has been and never will
be.
"Legends
of Camelot" Artist-Andrea Balch
Many sculptors have had to
find renewed inspiration in their work by turning from a non-color substance
such as plaster, clay and wax, bronze or stone. To easel painting for a
short period, thus relieving the pressure of working with heavy masses for
long periods and becoming buried in a drab world of grays and browns.
"No amount of skilful invention can replace the essential element of
imagination." - Edward Hopper
Sculpture is a primal mode of
artistic expression, appreciated and understood by men and woman of all
races, cultures, and ethnic origins. Because it makes it's appeal to the
mind thought the mind.
The strongest of senses and
touch... sculpture is the greatest of mediums. Because it not only requires
three-dimensional treatment. But it also has the ability to express
with force; many things that literature cannot.
These senses of touch are
both the oldest and the youngest of the major senses we experience. As
infants we get our first impression of feeling created by the sense of
touch, and later, we learn to translate these feelings to the eyes by
developing associations between the reactions of the same object through
touch and sight.
In old age, when our vision
is partially impaired, we revert to the sense of touch again.
This perhaps explains partly the universal appeal of statuary, regardless of whether we
run our fingers over the groven surfaces or feel through our eyes.
The sculptor must have many
visions, he or she must see from all dimensions. He or she must study their
object from all sides while the painter paints one profile - the sculptor
does a thousand, and have them blended as to produce a work that is
harmonious in every detail.
Sculpture falls into two
major classifications, each of which presents intriguing problems..... There
are portraitures of human beings as well as animals in the allegorical in
which the artist is free to express his or her own thoughts and emotions.
"It is believed" there is a
certain continuity in the minds of the men and woman that has no form of
expression in the words or in any other medium, other than sculpture.
Every man or woman has a basic common feeling when confronting some great
mountain, glacier, ocean, or natural upheaval - a mysterious something that
words reach and yet can be caught and portrayed in sculpture.
Sculpture is an unspoken word
that connects the past with the present and which will carry the message of
the present far into the future after all other forms of expression have
vanished.
I know when I sculpt a piece, it
is a mental challenge, I don't realize it until someone tries to talk to me, I bet many sculpture artists are the same.
I seem to go into a different place, ok mentally I am using 100%, but it is
a tranquil world, where time passes like the clouds outside.
And I find that to put some new
age music on in the background is also lovely. I pick the old mystical music
mostly. That's because I love the past, though any would do just fine,
as long as it is calming. I hope with reading this, the insight into
sculpture will leave you thinking, sculpture artists and collectors of sculpture alike, to help you to
understand the processes of what an artist goes through...
Whether it be sculpture artists, an artist of paints or drawing. We all share the magic of what its like to drift away in our own thoughts when doing our own work.
Question is...... would you like to become one of these sculpture artists?
