Realistic Drawing

Realistic Drawing:

Hand up who likes realistic drawing?

I know I do....... probably more than any other art. So what is it about realistic art that gets me all motivated and excited.

I love to re-create a piece of art from natural subjects around me. Is it easy? I should say not. Ok... we have perfect specimens to copy. So why is it such a challenge? Getting it right - that's the challenge.

I find it hard when asked to draw say, a cat in modern form. A bit like a cartoonist, you need to stretch your imagination to what is not real; therefore you need to create something that is almost in the realms of fantasy.... Which is fine.

So what are you, are you drawn to wanting to put pencil or pen to paper and create what you see. Or are you more drawn to the non-realistic.

Now there is something to think about! where do we classify fantasy art?  when drawing such art, we are most probably seeing. Say a drawing of life-like tendencies, yet the creature might be just that - a creature. With features of animals that we all know, yet it could be like a unicorn. Features taken from different animals, all put together to make a new creature.

Realistic Drawing gives me a great amount of satisfaction, when I know that with each drawing I do that I am getting closer to reality, I am all the happier.

But what about the people who are drawn to modern art. Now we have breached this conversation before. I don't think there is any straight forward answer to what sort of artist you will become. Yet you might discover that your tendencies lay closer to modern art, say.... if you go to an art school and some lessons,( in which you will have to do) concerning modern art.

Anyway... you know that my site is mainly concentrated to traditional art. And when we think that the artists of centuries ago, strived for the perfection of realism.

If you don't know what category you fit into, I would say try both forms of art, modern and traditional. Once you find where your passion really lies, then you know that that form of art is going to show its best, because of your passion and fire to strive to get it right.

Let whoever may have attained to so much as to have the power of drawing know he holds a great treasure.
Michelangelo

The role of you as an artist, is to strive for better, become excited every time you stand back from your drawing and know it looks even better than the last drawing you did.

I for one..... know your going to feel like this when you find your special nitch. Don't draw just for drawings sake, get your passion and

go with it. I see photos that I think... Wow! this would make a great drawing. And put the photo aside like a little Jay Bird, collecting its jewels. Or just need to get on with it and get drawing.

Realistic drawing is what artists for centries have strived to achieve, and I can think of no other celebration to the world we live in. You are complementing creation around you. And for man to have such abilities to create such drawings so close to realism with our skilled hands, we should be thankful.

I am a realistic artist first, and foremost. And am proud to be so.
