How to Draw Cats
How to Draw Cats:
Ol' ginger sitting on your sofa is a very fine cat indeed.....
Indeed the cat, whether house hold domestic, or wild, as some
are. Make fine subjects for art work. They are slinky and have stealth that
blend them into their surroundings like no other...
The cat is able to configure its form in ways that we can
only really dream about (unless you are a contortionist) ouch!
Puss has many guises, and we love them for it. Have you ever
seen a series of photos where a cat is taken falling literally onto its
feet. Their ability to turn their bodies in mid air and land on their feet
is amazing.
This brings us to how the cat is portrayed in art, so may
ways its hard to know where to start. We have seen them in traditional
form, to characteristic forms of accentuation that lends itself to modern
art. This form of modern art has lengthened their legs their necks, and yet
these forms fit so well with the cat. Reason; because they
are so slinky, smooth in their movements, we feel an artist is right to portray
them in slim forms. Lengthy in size which only complements their movements.
That's why these lovely creatures are so versatile in your
license in how to draw cats, paint and sculpt them as we see fit.
Have a look at this water color painting done in Japan, the
portrayal of man and cat fit well together in this painting. The painting is
simple yet informative. Capturing the mood of its subjects. It is a static
scene yet tells a story very well. Ok ladies who
are looking on here! I hope you are concentrating on the cat here.... and not paying too much attention on the naked man.
Anyway...this sort of painting is almost a brush
drawing with color added in . You can see the cats complete outline,
not really depicted by shades of color to make up the cats whole form. I
like its simplistic form. So that's why I have featured this picture.

Kuniyoshoi's Cat
So now I want to ask you...when you say you want to draw
cats, have you thought about what sort of cat you would like to draw?. I'm
not talking about different breeds of cats, I'm talking about style.
Have you given it any thought at all...
You do really have an artistic license to go overboard there in how to draw cats,
and I do hope we can stretch our imaginations with this subject.
I want you to have a look at the different types of art that
the cat has been portrayed in. Have a look on the net in the image
results and see the differences that can be achieved. Because I think the
cat is going to stretch your imagination. I hope so.
In this lesson were going to look at the cats expression
and how we can capture its different moods in our three forms of art styles in
