How to Draw Animals

How to Draw Animals:

Artists all follow different paths when perusing their art, they could be guided certain ways by what they like, what they have been taught as students.

They might go into different styles, and most always do a variety of different subjects when they first start to learn art.

You could call these things that they would not otherwise do, though when learning or under instruction of a teacher.

"To draw is to make a shape and movement in time." - Stuart Davis, 1951

An artist is taught all manner of styles and subjects. When an artist has finished their studies, you will find that many go into certain fields of art. Not necessarily mediums... no.

That's not what I am talking about here.

I mean certain subjects where they might use all manner of mediums.

Artists specializing in painting "people/nudes", "animals", certain "types of animals", such a "equine", "canine" of even just "portraits". Some artists just concentrate on "landscapes"; while others might do "still life".

As you know.....  here on my site we are concentrating on animals and specializing in certain animals.

If I tried to do all animals here, I would not have the time to teach you all that you need to know on just the four main animal subjects here. Being Horses, Dogs, Big Cats and Cats.

So we are looking at the groups:

  • Equine ~ where this includes zebra as well, as they are also a member of the horse family, along with the Donkey.

  • Canine ~ where we are also incorporating the Wolf, the ancestor of the dog.

  •  Feline ~ there are so many different breeds it would take the whole page to put them down.

  • Big Cats ~ Again, we have many different breeds from the lion through to the ocelot.

As you can see, there is more than enough to keep us busy here, if we want to be thorough.

So if you want to learn how to draw animals, and any of these interest you. I am going to go into these subjects in detail that will keep you very busy with just covering these four different species alone.

These four groups of animals are some of the most popular in the art world, from yesteryear to today.

I challenge you to have a look around at all different forms of art within the world of animal art, and you tell me just how thorough these particular animals are focused in art in one plane alone.

I for one have concentrated on these animals in art allot, and they are very popular.

Of course there are other animals that I have done, as with most artists.

But we need to keep this site fairly organized. So if you have chosen to be an animal artist, or you could also say "A Wildlife Artist". We have the big cats for you on how to draw animals. And to the more domesticated animal groups that  fall into this bracket.

You might find some examples of other animals on this site as I guide you through the lessons. Sometimes I feel there are particular pieces of art that fits in here in what I am trying to convey.

So we also get that little bit of variety, though, we are trying to stay within the realms of these groups of animals mainly.

Welcome aboard in how to draw animals, and I hope you find your journey in art the most fascinating one, I have been an artist for all of my life, and I still get excited by the different works I want to do.

And that's what makes the spark in Art, your enthusiasm to want to do your art.

Of course you will want to have breaks away from art, which only brings you back to want to achieve more.

Remember.... whether you are painting in the animal firstly, you are still drawing, it does not have to be with pencil, or markers, there are no rigid rules when it comes to how to draw animals.
