Fantasy Horse Art
Fantasy Horse Art: Fantasy.... what is it? It is what we have conjured up in our wildest dreams. Whether we have inflamed it, or encouraged it in the movies that we see these days. So different from the movies from many years ago where the characters looked very much like rubber, (because they were, remember the dinosaurs). We have come so far with computers and computer animation these days, which have brought to life the most magnificent creatures. We now can bring the fantasy creatures to life with computer animation like never before. I ,as with so many people would have looked thought the fairy tale books again and again, and wished that they really were true. And they still fascinate me today. Of course the horse did not get away with not staying out of the realm of fantasy either, we have seen the horse in many guises, from mythical creatures that have been told in tales for centuries; and still are as popular today as they were then. Horses charged into our lives with wings on their backs, the mystical Unicorn, and lets not forget the Centaur, half man, half horse. "A Kiss for Mommy" Artist ~Sharlene Lindskog-Osorio
So tell me........ do you want to draw and paint them? I some how think you do, or else you would not have landed on this page. Or were you merely just looking for some pictures? So have you thought about trying to draw or paint, even sculpture some fantasy horse art yourself ? I can show you the steps, we have three main fantasy horse art here, as I have mentioned them above. And the stages of creating them just needs you to change to a different mindset. Because you are crossing over from the world of reality to the world of make- believe. And believe me........ It's HUGE out there. People love it. Why, maybe people want to get away from the expected, even wish these fantasy animals were real. Whatever way we might look at it, creating fantasy horse art is like treading onto another plane in living. Let's have a look at one of my artist friends work Sharline. She has painted the Unicorn here. As you can see, both paintings here capture the unicorn in it's, most magnificent light. Not only has she captured these unicorns spirit, you can almost tell by looking at them, the magic that they hold.
""The painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through."" You can see by the painting up above, the feminine look of the mare and the youth of the foal compared the painting below showing the masculine pride of the male unicorn. Strength is seen within his face and features. Sharline had not only painted the unicorn, she has also brought out the magic connected with the unicorn. Something we should all strive for. It would be a long road to achieve, but if you, as an artist can achieve this, you have brought another dimension to your work. And yes.... it does take work, allot of it. Sharline's mastery of capturing the true spirit of her subjects is something she has achieved with allot of work and dedication to her paintings. "Unicorn" Artist ~Sharlene Lindskog-Osorio
Creating a fantasy horse will take stages, you will be blending the horse with features that are foreign to them in the natural world. And the centaur, which will be the hardest subject to master, as we are mixing the horse with man. You just cannot go and blend two subjects together and hope that they will just work out. You need to know what to look for when blending other characteristics together. Whether it be the horn of the unicorn or the wings of a Pegasus. You need to know what size, shape, and angle which is going to bring your fantasy horse to the fullest of it's potential. And create in fantasy horse art, a mythical beast that will feel and look natural. When you have a horse and rider, this may be two subjects bonded together in a way, by a man sitting on a horse, and it is every day life. So it's not any problem drawing and painting them. But in fantasy horse art, you are dealing with subjects that are not walking around in every day life with us. That's what gives us the challenge, and that is where we fall into delving into a different form of art that takes us away from everything we know and are familiar with "The realm of fantasy".
