Dog Art

Dog Art:

Dogs and art have a sort of homely way about them. When I see a piece of art work with a dog in it. It warms me,  seeing our constant companions beside us in a form of art.

Their mere presence in our lives has fulfilled us with friendship that only a dog can do.  Our constant shadow when we move, they have installed a sense of friendship that has found its way onto canvas and sculpture alike

So what is it that brings you to the subject of the dog art. Do you also feel that warmth that radiates from their eyes. The dog has a face that shows great expression, unlike some other animals, the dog has many muscles in their face that enable them to show vast differences of emotions. Like ourselves, you can see what they are thinking in their faces.

"Drawing and color are not separate at all; in so far as you paint, you draw. The more color harmonizes, the more exact the drawing becomes. When the color achieves richness, the form attains its fullness also." ~

So the dog gives us a great flexibility in using their different moods to create art that shines out to the onlooker.

I am inclined to think that the dog is probably better portrayed on canvas. Seems as though we can work with many colures that seem to bring our their characters best.

Have you ever see the paintings, say of the 18th century. Where you see in an old English pub scene on canvas, and  a dog sleeping in a chair.  I love these sorts of paintings, and am drawn to them.  Still today, when I am in England, I can still go in to one of those beautiful Old English pubs in the country side and see a dog sleeping on a chair, near a fire place, or just sleeping on the floor near their masters feet. It is wonderful to see the unity of both dog and man in such a public though homely place.

The dog will bring out the closeness and warmth in you. That that you will want to transfer into your art. And learning to achieve the most basic of the dogs expressions will challenge you in the nicest of ways.

The other member of the dog family, or where it all began; was the wolf. And we cannot miss having this most wonderful wild dog here on this site. Their presence in mystic and wild, as only the wolf can be, and a pleasure to all artists to work with. Their pure wild demeanor is intoxicating, and if you are drawn to the wolf as I am, you will want to capture the wolf in art, the same as myself.
