Dog Art

Dog Art:

Dogs and art have a sort of homely way about them don't they.

When I see a piece of art work with a dog in it, it warms me to see our constant companions beside us in a form of art.

Their mere presence in our lives has fulfilled us with a sort of friendship that only a dog can give.  Our constant shadow when we move about, they have installed a sense of friendship that has found its way onto canvas and sculpture alike

So what is it that brings you to the subject of the dog art.

Do you also feel that warmth that radiates from their eyes.

The dog has a face that shows great expression, unlike some other animals, the dog has many muscles in their face that enable them to show vast differences of emotions. Like ourselves, you can see what they are thinking in their faces.

"Drawing and color are not separate at all; in so far as you paint, you draw. The more color harmonizes, the more exact the drawing becomes. When the color achieves richness, the form attains its fullness also." ~

So the dog gives us a great flexibility in using their different moods to create art that shines out to the onlooker.

I am inclined to think that the dog is probably better portrayed on canvas than in sculpture. Seems as though we can work with many colors, seems to bring the dog's to the fullest.

"By the way, my subscribers to "Pet Art Newsletter" get exclusive tips on how to achieve the union of the dog in art, that people relate to in real life.

Have you ever see the paintings, say of the 18th century, where you see on canvas, an old English pub scene with  a dog sleeping on a chair.

I love these sorts of paintings, and am drawn to them, as I am sure you are.

Even still today, when I am in England I can still go in to one of those beautiful Old English Pubs and see a dog sleeping on a chair, near a fire place, or just sleeping on the floor near their masters feet. It is wonderful to see the unity of both dog and man in such a public, though homely place.

The dog will bring out the closeness and warmth in you in which you will want to transfer into your art, and learning to achieve the most basic of the dogs expressions will challenge your art work in the nicest of ways.

I want to show you a system that I have used when it comes to drawing dogs its a little bit different, but this system is simple and gets your proportions right, and that's the most important thing Proportion...

Lets have a look at the difference of drawing the domestic dog compared to its ancient ancestor the wolf.

Getting the fundamentals and the workings of the dog right the first time, its a must, so when it comes to the dogs anatomy you need to know a fair bit.

I always think that a dogs nose is the first in to danger and the first out! so lets see how we go about drawing and painting the dogs nose in your art.

Have you really thought about just how complicated the dogs ear is, so I present the challenge in getting it right first time in your art work.

Another complicated subject in art is drawing a dogs front paws. Quite different from the dogs back paws.

Now were going to have a look at the dog running , the dog is fast and its movements are systemised by its muscle and bone structure and also some of the different angles you can present the dog when running.

Puppies are so quite, so lets see the fundamentals of how to draw this little fellow.

The other member of the dog family. Where it all began; was the wolf. And we cannot miss not having this most wonderful wild dog here on this site.

Their presence is no less than mystic and wild as only the wolf can be, and a pleasure to all artists to work with them. Their pure wild demeanour is intoxicating, and if you are drawn to the wolf as I am, you will want to capture the wolf in art the same as I have.

The Wolf

The wolf  in art is noting but fantastic, so let me guide you with getting the proportions right.

Fur is non-static, it changes with every movement that an animal makes. So we need to understand it and how its growth patterns changes for one part of the body to the other.

Wolf art means many things to different artists, so lets have a closer look to find out how they effect the artist and the people in general.

One of the most well know wolves is the Grey Wolf , lets have a look at some pictures of the this wolf and how you would pick out the best art work from just one photo alone.

Lets get more in to the detail of how to draw the Wolf from the outlines to drawing in the wolf's features in pencil.

Interpreting Wolf drawing is a must if you are to ever understand what you are drawing.
