Cheetah Pictures and Creating Impact in How to Draw a Cheetah

Cheetah Pictures and Creating "IMPACT" in how to Draw a Cheetah:

How to create impact with the cheetah. And things to avoid when drawing these beautiful beasts. Right! lets get right down to it... shall we.

Question.....What is the major thing that you think of when thinking about the cheetah?

If I was to answer this, I would say their speed. So how do we achieve this in a piece of art work. We have many thing to work with here, (thanks to mother nature).

The lean body of the cheetah eludes their power. The lines of the cheetah are long and fine in every way. And here we concentrate in bringing out that crackling feature that makes the cheetah what it is.

Doesn't matter if the cheetah is standing. You can use this to its full advantage.

Think about it this way... if you can position the cheetah in such a way that shows off its best asset - you see the promise of speed. Thus Impact for your art in cheetah pictures.

Don't create a surrounding around the cheetah that is going to take away the majesty of its form and features, you want the cheetah to be the most dominant part of your drawing or painting.

Having this big cat do what it does best, the fragility and promise of speed.

Conception, my boy, fundamental brainwork, is what makes the difference in all art.

~Dante Gabriel Rossetti

In cheetah pictures, no other big cat has this presence..... and if you don't pick up on this right from the start, it will be lost. Now I'm not talking about having the cheetah THERE! in your face.

I don't want you to have a second grade piece of art. Subtlety  is what we are looking for - and yes impact. You will read it in the picture itself, in such a way that it shows a brilliance in your work.

Ok... some examples:

-Lets have our cheetah walking, its stride is purposeful and its head is lowered. I see this in a pencil sketch, here.......a few trees and blades of grass blowing in the wind.

Keep those muscles of the cheetah long and lean, show its muscles and a sense of purpose on its face. This is called impact in a way that draws the onlooker into the story.

 - Another..... the cheetah in full flight, chasing its pretty. Now you might draw the cheetah on a full side view... nice enough........... but not interesting enough, the cheetah does not just chase its prey in a straight line.

As seen in so many portrayals I have seen. The prey is going to dodge and change direction, so the cheetah does the same, using its long tail as a rudder, it is able to turn with accuracy at such speed. Do the same in your ark work.

Have a drawing of the cheetah turning in full flight, and the dirt under its paws flying in a dust cloud. Thus with such a change of action, the strain on the cheetahs body needs to be shown. I hope you are envisioning this picture in your head, and put it down on paper.
