Cat Art

Cat Art:

Cats are sleek in their movements, and their grace has captured the artists imagination for thousands of years.

Did you know that many an artist and scholar have owned cats though out the ages. These cats seem to be there, sitting on their masters desk as they write out their thoughts, or novels.

The artist has their muse (cat) sitting near them in their studio while they sculpt or paint. And still do even today...

So what is it about the cat that has made them so much "the artists companion"? I think it may have something to do with their closeness to creative people, they seem to enrich our thoughts and lives.

Quite and subtle, the cat does not barge through an artists studio, they sit, watch, and curl up near you while you do your work.

I know when I am at work, it is nice to have your feline companion close (sleeping most of the time) in comfort,  yet knowing that you are there.

One of my cats did go a little far the other day when I was painting, having put my painting down flat on the table; he saw fit to walk over it.

So here I was, carrying this big lump of cat into the kitchen to wash his paws off with water before he left even more of a trail of colourful paw prints though out the house.

"Art is contemplation. It is the pleasure of the mind which searches into nature and which there divines the spirit of which Nature herself is animated".-Auguste Rodin

Have you ever looked at some old paintings from hundreds of years ago, where you might see a cat in the corner of the painting; or on a persons lap, or even a piece of furniture. The cat has crept into their owners lives.

The cats stealth, fine lined, to fluffy brilliance has inspired us. We are drawn to complementing their form onto canvas and also into the three dimensional forms of sculpture.

"By the way, my subscribers to "Pet Art Newsletter" get exclusive tips on how to achieve the look of curiosity and cleverness of the cat".

And if you are like me, I also have brought art pieces of the cat myself from other artists, that now hang up or stand in my home.

The cat is a wonderful subject to work with, and we are going to explore the possibilities of how the subject of the cat has, and will inspire our artistic capabilities.

I want to take you to some ideas and thoughts on how to Draw our Feline friends as there is more than just grabbing your pencil and just drawing away.

Its one thing drawing a Cats Head but have you just wondered how many different shapes and sizes there are, when we think of all the cat breeds out there today.

That little sniffer on the cat is so awesome, its capabilities of sniffing out what us humans can only dream of . So when it comes to painting a Cats Nose, something that is largely overlooked by some artists, and just how complicated it really is once you are faced with getting the shape just right.
